Sturgeon Cricket 2026

We were blessed with glorious weather and an exciting game for the 20th year of Sturgeon Cricket. We welcomed alumni from the classes of 2025 all the way back to 1952 along with former staff and parents to Ditton Field we had a brilliant turnout

The alumni batted first with Sam Sloan and Liam O’Neill (Kingstonians 2025) opening.

It was fantastic to welcome back alumni from the class of 2025 who played for the school last year and were back to hopefully win this year on the alumni team. 20 overs later and the alumni team had set the school a target of 128 – could the school chase it down?

Alec Holden (Captain) and Heath Terlouw (Kingstonians 2026) got off to a brilliant start for the school. Alec decided to retire after a fantastic betting display.

After 18.2 overs the school were 129/5 and for the first time since 2016 were the winners of the Sturgeon Cup for the first 10 since 2016. An interesting piece of Sturgeon history – James Hall and Ben Park were both a part of the last School team to beat the alumni in 2016 and turned out for the alumni team 10 years later. We are incredibly grateful to all our alumni who turn out to play in sporting fixtures – without you these events would not happen. The 2026 Sturgeon team of S Sloan, L O'Neill, P Patel, R Moss, H Land, B Park, R McGeachie, J Dreyer, J Hall, A Rice- Oxley and T Beaumont.

We were incredibly lucky to once again have alumnus James Gordon (Kingstonian 1979) on hand to present the Rodney Sturgeon Cup to a very deserving Alec Holden. The cup is awarded each year to the cricketer who has made the most of their talent. Alec played excellently both in the field and with the bat and was a fantastic leader on the day.

As we look back on 20 years of Sturgeon Cricket it is an event that continues to bring together people from so many parts of our KGS community.
