Anne Lury, Matthew and Laura Mace’s mother sadly passed away on 27th August. Anne joined the Sherriff Club as the Treasurer and then became the Chairperson in 2020/2021. She made wonderful contributions working with the Rowing Director and staff to bring together the parents of the rowers to support the Sherriff Club and the School. At the same time Anne also joined The Vets and learnt to row and she competed in events for the KGS Vets, for example, at the Walton regatta in 2022.

Anne organised the relaunch of the Sherriff Club sponsored row which had not been held for a number of years and set things up for it to run smoothly as a regular event for the school and raising money for charity. She also helped and supported each year at the National Schools regatta and Henley to mark the event for KGS with the pupils, staff and parents being able to cheer the crews on from the KGS tent.

Matthew followed with amazing rowing achievements, both at Putney Town rowing club in his gap year where he was a coach at and Manchester University where he was the Club Captain and subsequently President of their rowing club. I believe he and Anne mutually inspired each other.

As a friend of Anne’s and having met at the Sherriff Club I wanted to share her rowing memories with you all and thank her from the bottom of my heart for all that she did for the school and everyone in the rowing community. She was a truly kind and special person and is greatly missed.
